Battlefront 2 Mace Windu

19.08.2019

The Empire is without an emperor. Last week, a Star Wars Battlefront II update apparently brought back the evil Emperor Palpatine’s game-breaking ability to shoot lightning through walls. An emergency fix completely removed him from the game, and it’s unclear when he’ll return.

I know I'm not the only one who really wants Mace Windu to be one of the playable heroes in Battlefront 2!

Star Wars Battlefront II allows players to fight as iconic heroes and villains from the films, provided they’ve scored enough points during a match to unlock the character. These characters range from the stalwart Jedi Luke Skywalker to the most famous Star Wars character: Bossk. One of the game’s most powerful villains is Emperor Palpatine, who has the ability to leap around the battlefield and shock enemies with lightning. His Electrocute ability caused issues earlier this year, allowing him to zap players through walls. Palpatine was then nerfed, stripping him of the ability to target enemies through walls. A July 4th hotfix aimed to help Palpatine’s lightning ability work better on enemies in close range, but now he’s being removed from the game altogether.

Some players believe the tweak brought back his previously nerfed lightning. YouTubers and community members on social media are saying that Palpatine’s zapping them through walls, possibly as result of the hotfix’s change to the abilities tracking.

EA Dice hasn’t said what the cause for the removal was. “We plan to execute our Kill Switch (KS) for him,” Dice global manager of community engagement Ben “F8RGE” Walke said in a post on the game’s official forums. “This means he will be removed from the game. He will be disabled until a hotfix can be deployed. We don’t take this decision lightly, but we feel it is in the best interest for everyone until a fix can be deployed.”

The only benefit, unless you happen to have vassalized the pope himself, is that you can charge them higher tax rates. To create republics, you first give someone a city, then give them the capital barony in that county (exactly like prince-bishops, but with cities instead of temples). Wrong type of holding in demesne ck2. You can't play as a theocracy, so it only makes sense to talk about the benefits of having theocratic vassals. But if that's the goal, it's better to have republican vassals since republics make more money.

Palpatine’s removal snuck up on casual players, though Dice was communicative at major forums. This is not the first time a Battlefront series hero has been turned into a monster. A patch in 2016’s Star Wars Battlefront infamously made Lando Calrissian so powerful that the splash damage from his blaster even killed himself, while tearing other heroes in half. For now, there’s no clear timeline for Palpatine’s return.
Reaction to the Palpatine situation seems caught between appreciation for the quick response and frustration that there was a problem to begin with. “I’ve completely lost count on how many times the game has been broken by updates and patches,” Battlefront YouTuber Star Wars HQ said in a comment on their channel. “A patch is supposed to fix the game, NOT break it. Get better Q&A (sic) please. We love you Emperor Palpatine. You and your beautiful laugh will be missed, if only for a short time. See you again someday!”

Samuel L. Jackson last appeared in a Star Wars film in 2005's Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith when his Mace Windu character was killed by Emperor Palpatine. Almost 15 years later, Jackson reminds fans that, were Lucasfilm interested in telling Windu's origin story, he has his lightsaber at the ready.

'Well, we've got Lola [VFX], they've got Lola, it's theirs, let's see what happens. I'm down with it,' Jackson shared with ComicBook.com about going through the de-aging process for his Jedi's origin story. 'I've still got my purple lightsaber, I'm ready.'

Despite being absent from the franchise for so long and no rumors emerging that hint at Windu returning to the big screen in any capacity, Jackson has regularly expressed his enthusiasm for the franchise and explained he is more than happy to reprise his role. Jackson's comments probably won't surprise most fans of the franchise, as this is only the latest incident in a long line of confessions where the actor confirmed he wanted to breathe life into Windu once again.

“I’m totally interested in revisiting Mace Windu, always,” Jackson shared with Red Carpet News TVlast summer while promoting Incredibles 2. “Jedi never die.”

The actor's comment about Jedi never dying can be interpreted humorously, though there is some truth to that concept, as characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda have proven they had a 'life' after death, appearing to our heroes as Force Ghosts. Additionally, Windu's final moments on screen saw the Jedi get his hand cut off by Anakin Skywalker before he flew out of a window on Coruscant. Some theories suggest that Windu survived the encounter, with the emergence of the sequel trilogy films causing speculation that Windu could be Supreme Leader Snoke.

At Star Wars Celebration in 2017, Jackson shared a video message with the crowd calling for his character's return.

“I know you're all in my corner on this. We all know Jedi can fall from incredible heights and survive, so apparently, I am not dead,” Jackson said. “Yes, I have two appendages right now, but we know the long and rich history of Star Wars characters reappearing with new appendages and being stronger and better than they ever were. Mace Windu is awaiting his return, let's make it happen!”

Stay tuned for details on Jackson's possible return to the Star Wars saga.
