Micro Set And Sol
In addition, Micro Set slightly softens the decal film to make it more flexible so that it will conform better to the model's surface. It also can act as a decal remover. Micro Sol setting solution is needed for applying decals to the most difficult, irregular surfaces found on models.
Micro Set smells a lot like vinegar. Micro Sol also has a familiar smell, like maybe acetone? At $4.00/oz, the price seems excessive and I'm wondering if I can use something else.
EDIT:
The online consensus is that Micro Set is diluted acetic acid (vinegar), and Micro Sol is acetone diluted with isopropyl alchohol. However, some people complain of yellowing when using vinegar as a substitute for Micro Set. It's unclear to me if there's an additional proprietary chemical that prevents this yellowing or if there is some other cause.
I tried using the two bottles I bought this afternoon. They seem to work as well as everyone claims, and I didn't use very much.
